INTRO

hey, everybody welcome back nice seeing you here again, and if you are new here I'm happy that you seeking knowledge. in this blog, I'm going to talk about IPV4, for those who haven't any clue what it means, well, in short, it's the fourth version of the internet protocol.

internet protocol, what does it mean??

well obviously IP, which stands for internet protocol, is the internetโ€™s principal set of rules for communications between different devices connecting to the NETWORK.

  • An IP address is a unique address that identifies a device on the internet or a local network.
  • An Ip address has two parts, one part identifies the network. And the Other part identifies the host, such as a computer or other devices.

  • IP addresses are not random. They are mathematically produced and allocated by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA), a division of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

Types of IP addresses

well, there are different categories of IP addresses, and within each category, different types.

Public IP address

A public IP address is a unique IP address for the identification of a particular network. every public IP address is provided to the router of a network by ISP (Internet Service Provider).

An ISP (internet service provider) is a company that provides individuals and organizations access to the internet and other related services.

Public IP addresses are either static or dynamic in nature.

Private IP address

Private IP addresses are unique addresses that belong to internet-connected devices like smartphones, computers, and tablets,... The router in a network generates a unique private IP address for every device that is connected to a network.

Consumer IP address

Consumer IP addresses are the IP addresses of individuals who use the internet. These could be either public or private in nature. While a private IP address can be used within a network, outside a network, public IP addresses are used.

What is IPV4?

IP version 4 addresses are 32-bit integers that can be expressed in hexadecimal notation. The more common format, known as dotted quad or dotted decimal, is X.X.X.X, where each X can be any value between 0 and 255.

  • IPv4 uses 32-bit addresses which limits the address space to 4294967296 addresses.
  • IPv4 reserves special address blocks for private networks (~18 million addresses) and multicast addresses (~270 million addresses).
